    I thought that the Marines were issued M1 Garand rifles? There is a 30 cal. Carbine in the mix.

    Regarding the Carbine comment. The M1 Garand was the primary issue weapon, but the U.S. Carbine Caliber .30 M1 was developed and widely distributed as a lighter rifle for support and special units. Interestingly, Inland engineers put the finishing touches on the final Ordnance drawings for the M1 Carbine on the afternoon of December 7th, 1941. Eventually, there were over 6 million Carbines issued and, I believe, it is the most produced firearm in American military history.
